WARRIOR NINGYO 01
Warrior Dolls
Warrior Ningyo are also known as Gogatsu (May) dolls, and are displayed on 5th day of the 5th month each year. This day is now known as 'Children's Day' but was originally known as 'Tango no Sekku', (boys' day), when families with sons celebrated by flying Koinobori (carp streamers), which represent
vigor and perseverance, and setting up a display of Warrior Ningyo. Most
Warrior Ningyo portray historical or legendary figures, such as Shoki the Demon Queller, Momotaro the Peach Boy, the legendary emperor
Jimmu, etc. The dolls represent the virtues of the Samurai, and are displayed with
Armor and weapons.
